Coaching is a term that is often misunderstood because it is used in a number of different ways in a number of different areas.
For our purposes I have included a few definitions below:
“Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership.” International Coaching Federation
“Unlocking people’s potential to maximize their own performance.” Sir John Whitmore
Coaching is a developmental ongoing interaction between two people, the Coach and the Client, which assists the Client to develop their capabilities, achieve their goals and objectives and produce successful results.
The Coach facilitates change through verbal and non-verbal communication (questions, reflections, explanations, metaphors, tasks, guiding focus, exercises, etc.). The Coach promotes and supports their Client’s growth, learning, professional and personal development.
A Coach creates and facilitates change, elicits, selects, trains, asks meaningful questions, motivates, creates insights, explains, tasks, evokes, challenges, stimulates, supports and encourages their Client’s self-expression.
For me, Coaching works on the premise that we are all doing the best we can with the thinking, resources and strategies that we currently have available to us. My job as a Coach is to ask you questions that you may not have thought to ask yourself, developing your self-awareness, expanding your perception and helping you to explore new options that empower you and put you in back in the drivers seat.
I will challenge you to think in new ways which will shine new light on your challenges and help to open up new doorways that lead towards a path to success – whatever that looks like to you.
Sometimes simply verbalising and laying out all the noise and thoughts bouncing around our heads can help us to see things more clearly.
Having someone asking you targeted questions to help you explore your thoughts and challenges can help you to get a better sense of what you’re facing and the options open to you. Expressing and examining your feelings surrounding your challenges can help you identify what’s really important. Hearing your thoughts and challenges spoken back to you can really put things into perspective and provide clarity.
As your Coach I will be your sounding board, your confident and someone you can speak to about anything you want without fear of judgement or reproach. My only interests are in helping you do and achieve whatever is best for you and I have no goal other than your satisfaction and happiness.
